Trump questioned why Fauci has a higher approval rating than his over the coronavirus while 'nobody likes me'

  • President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he did not understand why he has a worse approval rating for his handling of the coronavirus than Dr. Antony Fauci.
  • "He's got this high approval rating, so. Why don't I have a high approval rating, and the administration, with respect to the virus?," Trump asked.
  • He questioned why health officials in his administration are "highly thought of, but nobody likes me."
  • He continued: "It can only be my personality, that's all."

2020欧洲杯小组赛President Donald Trump questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci could have a better approval rating over the coronavirus than his own at a news conference on Tuesday.

2020欧洲杯小组赛Trump was asked about why he retweet posts on Tuesday claiming Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, had mislead Americans about a virus treatment.

Trump replied by saying: "I get along with him very well and I agree with a lot of what he's said."

2020欧洲杯小组赛And Trump said that Fauci's popularity with the public should also be enjoyed by Trump and his administration. 

"It's interesting. He's got a very good approval rating. And I like that. It's good," he said.

"Because remember: He's working for this administration. He's working with us. We could have gotten other people," Trump said.

Trump was asked about his retweets, including a tweet that claimed that Fauci has2020欧洲杯小组赛 "misled the American public on many issues," including the effectiveness of the drug hydroxychloroquine.

Trump has recommended the drug as a preventative for COVID-19, but numerous medical authorities have debunked the suggestion that it provides any benefit.

Fauci responded to the tweets2020欧洲杯小组赛 in an interview with ABC News on Tuesday, saying "I have not been misleading the American public under any circumstances."

"I don't tweet, I don't even read them. So I don't really want to go there. I just will continue to do my job no matter what comes out, because I think it's very important," he said. 

2020欧洲杯小组赛Polling has shown that Fauci's handling of the coronavirus is popular with the US public, while Trump's has not been.

In released on July 15 , 65% of respondents said they trust the information Fauci is providing about the virus, while 30% trust Trump's.

And in a mid-June national poll, 76% of respondents said they trusted Fauci for "accurate information" about the COVID-19 pandemic, while 26% said they trusted Trump.

Trump has been rattled by his poor standing compared to Fauci, . At one point the White House circulated information meant to to undermine Fauci and highlight what they say are his mistakes.
